Shannon and Nigel

So I just photographed a wedding in Pauanui recently where it rained most of the day. It was just one of those muggy, misty days where if you went outside at any time, your hair would drop and you'd have a thin mist of rain on your face within seconds. Totally unpredictable.  I photographed a wedding on a day like this in Matarangi last season but the bride actually preferred it to a sunny day. Those shots were amazing too...but anyway, back to this recent wedding.  My bride was guttered which is understandable, but she did all the right things. She had bought a bunch of parasols from www.parasoul.co.nz which photographed brilliantly and she has also arranged a few huge white golf umbrella's (I have since found for $5 each at the Clearance Shed in Albany!) which fitted her and her groom underneath when we went down to the beach. Now me, well I got quite wet but that's a different story. And totally unimportant!
The shots on this day turned out amazing!  I spotted a house which had really awesome louvetec shutters and an internal courtyard. So I grabbed my umbrella and knocked on their window and asked if I could bring a big bridal party across for a few shots. They loved it. It was brilliant entertainment for a rainy day and the shots came out awesome! 
All in all, I actually prefer shooting on a misty, rainy day. I love the look on people's surprised faces when I show them the shots.  You not only get gorgeous soft light on a day like that, but you also side step the harsh shadows which are present on a sunny day (not to mention the sweaty forehead and arm pits! yuck.) 
So never fear, if you are prepared with your parasols or umbrella's we're sure to have a blast on your wedding day and the shots will look awesome!
